Instructions:

We now move on to the ideation stage, Task 2. After proposing our idea to Ms Zazila, she mentioned only creating our proposed digital output which is: Video, Mascot, Logo redesign, and Social media content. Each task is divided among the groups and I will be doing the mascot design.

Meiling is in charge of the logo, Fazal is in charge of the video, Yumnu is in charge of the social media content, and I and Je Yann is doing the mascot together.

Research:

Week 5:
At first, I wanted to create an animal-based Mascot as animals tend to be cuter, and more approachable. So after researching the endangered animals in Malaysia I settled on Tapirs, Shrews, and Orangutan. I chose tapir over the others as orangutan was too common, and shrews were less commonly known.

I even went to the length of researching Sabah folklore to see if I can create a mascot based on it, but Fazal reminded me that this character design would be different to how it would be done in entertainment design.

Process:

Week 5:
We created a brand keyword that we want to convey to the audience the first they see EZplast. I had to create a mascot that is optimistic, approachable and had integrity.

Week 6:
At first, I wanted to use Tapir as a mascot as it represents Malaysia's animals and their endangered and gives it traditional clothing to show that it's from Sabah. But after some thinking, Meiling reminded us that we have to stay very true to our goal, which is to recycle and take in plastic. I don't have to necessarily create a mascot that "makes sense" but it has to feel approachable and friendly and it represents EZplast.

These are the primary sketches, to get the idea and the silhouette.

Within the week Meiling created a brand guideline for us, identifying the typography, logo and patterns that we are going to use.

I wanted to try all of the different main emotions first, and by using the colours on the brand guideline.

Feedback:

Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the week 7 meeting, but they suggested that we have to be more plastic-ish because right now it just looks like a nature-themed brand.

But my groupmates said that the mascot is cute, but we should focus on making the mascot more "plastic" as EZplast isn't focusing on the environment directly but through collecting plastic.
Next Course of Action:
After creating the sketches I will have to propose to make it more plastic and make it lineless.
