Minor Project - Compilation
Jonathan Djap Tirtajaya (0337579)
We showed Mr Mike our progress on the creation of the user persona, there were three samples, a university student, a fresh grad, and working labour. There were some things that needed to be readjusted with the working labour. We also needed to come up with the percentage of the targeted audience. After the creation of the user persona, I and Fazal went and created the google form in which we are expecting at least 50 responses.
Everything is coming together nicely for the group, all the assets, videos, images. Leaving lastly the video, which I was assigned to do scene 7 step 3 of the explainer video as the workload was uneven. I am also working with Farissa on sound design, which I have also downloaded some sound that could be used in it. Thanks to Farissa who did all of the sound design by herself, I only compiled the video and sent it to her.

Week 1: Reflection
The first week Mr. Mike welcomed us to the module. He is going to be our sole lecturer for the Minor project. He then explained what is a minor project is and its goal, and continued on explaining the different types of projects that we can choose from. Mr Mike briefed us on how this module, it's focused on collaboration and teamwork. We will be working with different schools from Taylors on developing a product that can contribute and help society. I feel like this allows us to develop an awareness of our environment and train us to work with others who have a different perspective when looking at a problem.
My group consist of Kyra, Fazal, Farissa, Han Bo, and Min Feng. We all choose Extrash project.

Week 2: Reflection
In our first discussion with the EAP group, they seemed very nice and proved their understanding of the subject. William as their group leader presented to us a more comprehensive review of the project. Turns out that the team already had a lot of work done and put into the UI and UX design. Our job here is to prototype the software and test it, while creating a brand marketing for it, like an Instagram page. At first in the first week, it seemed like there was little to cover, but as the week progressed the demand for work to be done started to loom over. The TBS asked for multiple videos which meant that we had to develop a graphic style for them. They asked us to try to work on the marketing side as well such as promotion, Instagram management etc. Plus there was the app that we had to focus on. As eager as we are as a team to start working on the application design. TBS wanted to communicate first with SCE as we had to confirm our ideas if it was possible to create them. So for now we just create a user persona and research competitor analysis and user personas.
Contextual reseach
In class, we talk about design thinking: Design thinking is about thinking from a user-centred perspective, and how to solve their problem.
User persona Target audience
The problem that we are facing with the project is that students and adults living in Malaysia need to be informed and act on how to dispose of recyclable waste correctly and more frequently because most Malaysians don't have sufficient access and knowledge, and the motivation to recycle effectively.
Familiarizing ourselves with recycling, our closet competitors, our target audience and the statistics. This information helped us create our survey.
Week 4: Reflection
The google form questions that were created could've been fixed in some ways. For example, the questions could've been constructed in a way where “layman” would understand it better. The terms and words that were used might be a bit too complicated. The google form questions could also be structured with more multiple-choice questions instead of short paragraphs as this made sorting through the responses extra hard.Week 5: Reflection
Mr Mike checked us on whether the drivers that sign up for the application would want to drive all the distance if the result does not end on a net positive. Sir wanted us to double-check with the business team on the budget division. Which they are currently working on. Mr Mike also proposed that we make the map gamified or interesting, as a group of customers that wants to recycle would raise the incentive for the drivers to use the app and drive there.Gantt Chart of our process throughout the semester.
Week 6: Reflection
This week I and Fazal worked on roughly sketching out the character designs first, even though it is in a really rough stage we encountered some problems that we haven't identified such as the keywords that we want to convey through the design. Aside from that Kyra created the low-fi version prototype, which we showed to the other 2 schools. They were a bit overwhelmed by it, so it will take them some time to get back to us with the feedback. About the funding of the driver and financial planning question that Mr Mike poses, business school is currently in the works of making a financial plan.

Week 7: Reflection
After showing finalized the logo, we are next r going to move on to creating the art direction, which consists of style guides which are how we are going to create the shapes, colours, keywords that we r going to convey, and key art pattern.

Week 8: Reflection
We have finalized the characters, after coming out with 3 different styles, we proceeded on the colour scheme, which is later changed once more to allow the characters to stand out. The character was done with Fazal, as he helped with the first sketches and the polishing of it.Onboarding illustration made by me and Fazal.
Week 9: Reflection
The computing team needed us to finish the onboarding illustration on short notice, which luckily we were able to deliver by the end of the week. Fazal first created all of the sketches for the onboarding, and then I proceeded on creating them in illustration, followed by Fazal polishing out the illustration. We also did the same process for creating the assets for the animation for Min Feng.Assets sketch #1

Week 10: Reflection
This week Min Fend sent me and Fazal a list of assets that we had to create for the animation, the workload was divided half to Fazal and myself. The final result did look a bit odd as they didn't really look cohesive with the background.Week 11: Reflection
This week was a bit of a free week, as there were no tasks directly handed to me. We got feedback from the lecturer saying that the stickers and Instagram posts have to look together and from the same company.
Week 12: Reflection
This week we revisited the assets that were created on week 11 and decided to separate the workload of the video throughout the group. The video is split into 5 parts, 4 animating the scene and 1 compiling it/sound design.Feedback:
(Add "X" on the last part of the video
Add a slide to show where we stand as extrash (brand positioning graph)
Add persona
Show the user journey map, on how we deal with the problem.
Add the lo-fi (i think) show the one from XD, Add user testing.
Add the stickers from the perspective on the phone)
Week 14: Reflection
As our semester comes to an end, all the deadlines are closing. The video is basically finished excluding 1 small part that needed some change. Aside from the video we all got ready to present the week after. We all picked our section on the slides to present. I also helped a bit on preparing some gifs for the slide itself.Week 15: Reflection
The final week required just some last finishing touches, as well as the finalization of the presentation deck.

Final Reflection:
This was hands down one of the best groups I have had the honour to work with. Everyone was attentive, and cooperative at most times. The chemistry between everyone is very warm and welcoming, and the communication is very easy. We were very fortunate to have an amazing senior as our group leader, and another brilliant one as like a vice leader. Both in my opinion played such a key role in making the group so successful. Cerene was always so detailed and schedule oriented, she made sure everyone have everything ready on time and she always pushes the quality of the work to the next level. Kyra did an amazing job in directing the group on where to head and is always enthusiastic and uplifting to talk to.
